Patrick, you need to write another book mate. I've been waiting too long now.
Pigeon Wars is just fantastic.

Hi Patrick,
I wanted to ask a quick question. I am a graduate student that is earning my degree in the area of Urban Studies, and my thesis work is on social movements in Brazil. Working with AfroReggae and MST as my two main subjects.
Anyway, the question is...Does the new printing of Culture is our Weapon(US version, which has a longer page count than the LAB version of the book, which I have) offer any new content that the original does not?
paz, V
Patrick replies:

Hello Violet

I'm sorry. I've been really busy. The new version of Culture Is Our Weapon includes one new chapter, written by Damian who went on to work for AfroReggae. (www.cultureisourweapon.com)

best
Patrick

I finished "Musungu Jeam ..." a day ago, and just dying for some other of yours book. While I was searching I find out a horrible fact - there are only two books available in Serbia and I already read one. I start to read "Twelve Bar Blues" very slowly so it will last more I suppose...:)
I'm completely and totally in love with your writing, it was love on first reading.
Thank you for being writer and sharing.
Patrick replies:

Thanks Rada. Only hope 12 Bar Blues lives up to expectations ...

Patrick, my husband and I just finished City of Tiny Lights -- the first book of yours that we've read -- and think it's absolutely brilliant! Any plans to create more Tommy Akhtar adventures?
Patrick replies:

Hello Jean
Three months later ...
Apologies for absurd tardiness. Explained partly by new baby and partly by new Tommy plans, so hopefully!
Thanks for your support
Patrick

Hi,
I just finished Jerusalem and was struck by something. I have only cried a handful of times from reading a book and two that stand out are the deaths of PK and (for fear of ruining it for anyone reading this) the person in your latest novel.
The reason they stand out is the complete surprise my own reactions took me by. I was not in anyway, either time (the first perched on my suitcase in the departure lounge, the second on my sofa), expecting to find myself bawling unashamedly whilst turning the page. Well done, lovely stuff.
Yours In Mourning
Nick
Patrick replies:

Hey Nick

Many thanks. You hope what you write moves people in some way, but obviously you never know. For the last year, I've been reading (in book shops etc) what I think is the funniest passage of Jerusalem and it's yet to provoke anything but solemn nodding.

Send my love to Brizzers ...
Patrick

Dear Patrick,
I have been really inspired by your books, having spend four years in Zim as a development worker, which was a lot of development work for me. After Zim I stayed three years in London when I somehow came in touch with a group of other Zimbabweans who were writting. We formed a group called "writting wrongs" and wrote our first play together.
We got as far as the "blue elephant theatre" and the "Oval theatre", but only for "rehearsals" . We still have the script of the play hanging around but so far in limbo:
Have you got any idea what we could do with it, except to tear it apart.
Cheers Kerstin
Patrick replies:

Hey Kerstin
Thanks for getting in touch. Sorry to say I can't really help. I don't know anything much about the machinations of play production. Have you tried getting the Writers and Artists Yearbook? That seems to be full of contacts and the like ...
Take care
Patrick

Hi Patrick
I just wanted to write and say that I adore your writing. My friend (hey! my best friend!) tracked down a copy of Musungu Jim for me last year and I have just spent the last few days on the dread bus to work re-reading the whole trilogy. No doubt you get this sort of thing all the time but it's my view that great work should be applauded and so I had to write!
Love and other fine things, Chris.
Patrick replies:

Hey Chris

Really nice of you to take the time ... get this sort of thing all the time? If only that were true. Hope all's well with you and the dread bus treats you gently ...

Take care
Patrick
